Responsible for the research and development process of exisitng and new products from conception to completion in seat heat/ventilation systems that meet and/or exceed our customer expectations.


  • Research and develop new materials/ components and assembly/ manufacturing techniques, related patents/ intellectual properties.
  • Champion current and future development programs.
  • Develop specifications for material with manufacturing and coordinate material selection with the parent company where necessary.
  • Will develop approved material list as well as material requiring "special" approval, thus developing other alternative suppliers (with Purchasing).
  • Participates with Purchasing and Quality, will assist in choosing a supplier and release the material through the PPAP process.
  • Formulate cost-reduced versions of existing products, without compromising product quality standards, as well as making improvements to new products.
  • Document all testing procedures (i.e., ingredients, amounts, methods, equipment, time, temperature, etc.) in a standardized format.
  • Establish and maintain product pipeline, project timetables and budgets.
  • Coordinate the product commercialization process, develop internal processes, test equipment, and improve manufacturing efficiencies and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Design product(s) utilizing engineering principles, apply best practices, lesson learned and innovative design techniques to achieve a reliable product at competitive price.
  • Proactively identify areas within the project/product which might cause issues, or affect timing, quality, or customer expectation.
  • Confer with other engineering and cross functional teams on a frequent basis to ensure all the product developments are coming together seamlessly.
  • Create product/ component design and drawings, top level customer saleable drawings/ documents.


  • Scientific degree combined with an engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience, commonly using small tools such as drilling machine, band-saw, screw driver, wrench, belt sander, cutters/ wood cutting lath.
  • Must be familiar with the mechanics of plant equipment for processing, testing, and inspecting product components /assemblies.
  • Good understanding of plastic /thermoplastic molding process.
  • Creative, can do approach, ready to try-out "design for experiment" activities.
  • Quick learner, good understanding of basic science- physics, concepts of mechanical engineering.
  • Must be familiar with customer quality/manufacturing/engineering methods and practices.
  • Must be familiar with technical information received or issued by in/external customer or supplier eg. Material specifications, testing methods, schedules, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics & layouts.
  • Experience of working on automotive seats and automotive interior body system/ HVAC would be advantageous.
